Governer Schwarzenegger's Welcome Message
I am pleased to host the XXVI Border Governors Conference in Hollywood this year. I am proud of the success we have accomplished over the years to tackle our shared challenges.
Our 10 states represent the world's most important and dynamic bi-national region - with a joint economy that ranks third in the world. With 42 ports of entry, we also share the world's busiest border crossings.
These conferences provide the platform to work together on mutual concerns such as immigration, border security, environmental protection, agriculture, trade, economic development, tourism and public health.
In a quarter century of working together, we have become more than good neighbors. We are partners and good friends. We have achieved national recognition in both Mexico and the United States through our achievements. We have taken action with our joint declarations and our partnership is stronger than ever.
I am honored to be this year's chairman and look forward to setting our sights even higher than before. We must continue to work together on essential issues we have a common stake in.
In the spirit of bi-national cooperation, I look forward to the Conference engaging in vigorous and spirited debate and developing tangible policy outcomes. I am excited about what we can achieve through our candid thought-provoking discussions and the results that will lead to improving the lives of the citizens of our border region.
