The Border relationship began some three centuries ago. Exploration and colonization spread from Mexico City in all directions to settlements throughout the northern frontier into what is now Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, and California.
Modern California continues to share and create a history with Mexico. We are linked across the centuries by history, immigration, financial and business integration, culture, and geology and architecture with our number one trading partner.
The tremendous growth in the Border area – more than 6 million people – presents enormous challenges and opportunities. With the creation of more than 100,000 new jobs near the border, there are close to 70 million northbound crossings each year.
The BGC creates an important opportunity to address our shared challenges on both sides of the border if we are to prosper as a region.
